How can I build self-confidence in myself and in my business?

Jenaë Monaé

The topic of confidence has been tugging on my heart lately. I felt like I had to share my personal experiences and thoughts on this very important topic that sometimes gets overlooked.

What is confidence ?

noun

  1. full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing:

What is self confidence ?

noun

  1. belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities; self-confidence; self-reliance; assurance:

Gaining self confidence in your business and in your personal life is the key to fulfillment. Dove has catered their entire brand around women’s confidence and self-esteem because they understand that no matter the beauty products or cosmetic procedures you undergo, nothing can defeat confidence.

When you gain confidence it is a form of self love and self care. This is because you begin to do things for the betterment of yourself as a person. The best part of it all is that you don’t have to rely on anybody but yourself to boost your self confidence.

When you lack confidence you’re aren’t motivated to do anything to be better. Yes, this also includes your business. How many times have people given up on such a great idea but scrap the whole thing due to lack of confidence? Hellooooo, someone invented “anti pervert hairy socks” yes it’s a real thing! https://pulptastic.com/30-weird-but-brilliant-inventions/

No shade but if someone can create such an invention and be successful at it why can’t you? It all starts with confidence. I remember when I first started my lash business, I was lacking some serious self-confidence in my work and my business overall. It wasn’t until I got over my fears. The number one aspect in building your self confidence is to become fearless. Fear holds back a lot of people from being  great. This is because people are fearful of failure, that’s totally normal to feel this way but you know what’s even better than accepting that fear? It’s the acceptance that failure will happen and what will you do in order to reboot and try again? Once I started accepting that failure is inevitable I put my all into my lash business and I started to feel invincible. Remind yourself that you are more than enough and yo deserve everything that you want.

Hold yourself accountable and take notes. The only person that can hold you back from being the person you want to be is yourself. Confidence doesn’t allow for someone else to dictate your life, that’s not how it works. Accountability will help you stay grounded and serve as a daily reminder of your “to do list”. When you accomplish those things on your list it makes you feel better about yourself. Don’t forget to track your accomplishments and to celebrate all your wins, yes even the small wins. In order to achieve big goals you must accomplish the small goals first (you well before you run).

Realizing your values is huge in reminding yourself the kind of person that you are. It’s called character. This means you will have to make some tough decisions but in the long run, it will help you feel better about yourself as a person.

Do what makes you happy, if you’re too busy living life to please others, what does that leave you with? A shell of yourself. Whatever it is that makes you happy, make time for it. There is more to life than just browsing through social media and binge - watching TV shows. Don’t let conformity steer you from your goals.

Lastly, who cares what “they” say. You think if Beyoncé listened to what they said about her creativity we would have the Beyoncé you see today? I highly doubt it. Not everyone will understand your creative mind and that’s totally fine. You have to fully trust and believe in yourself firstly as a person and then as a successful entrepreneur. So many “crazy” ideas have become success stories, so what will be your success story ?

Easy ways to start building your self confidence:

  1. Give yourself a makeover. Try a new hairstyle or try a new lipstick. We all know that 80% of feeling good is looking good.

  2. Exercise. Get your body up and moving, studies show that exercise decrease stress making you feel good overall.

  3. Change your wardrobe. This doesn’t mean to go out and spend $500 on a new wardrobe. You can easily look through your closet and change up your style. Be daring and try something new, you might like it!

  4. Write down positive affirmations of yourself daily. It can be on sticky notes or a journal, whatever you choose, remind yourself daily that you are loved, you are great and you are a success story.

  5. De clutter your life. Reorganize your desk (when my desk is messy my world is in total chaos). Get rid of things and people that no longer serve you purpose. It’s hard to say but some people are not meant to be in your life forever. Some people are meant to stay just for a season.

Building your self confidence will not happen overnight. However once you start and you begin to notice the positive changes, everything else will begin to flow naturally allowing you to put forth energy and time to creating a better you.
